Using the Jim Kilpatrick Signature tuning block
When you have tensioned between all the tension rods around the drum, to number 1, turn the block to number 2 and do the same, making sure not to apply more than ¼ of the drum key at any one time.
When you are sure the top and bottom rings are evenly tensioned to a specific number or step on the tuning block, move to the next number and repeat as before.
There is no optimum number for tensioning on the tuning block. The player should decide on what pitch or tension they would like to achieve. The tension you apply will coincide with your top and bottom snare wire tension and height. I personally don’t take the tension on my drum to the last number (8). However this is a personal choice.
